questions to ask your wedding photographer BEFORE you book them

Weddings are important! You spend months and months planning for one day of your life. The day you say “I do!” It deserves to be captured and remembered the way you want it to be. Here are some tips to ask your photographer BEFORE you book them for your wedding so that you can ensure you will be happy with the outcome!

Ask to see a whole wedding gallery

  • When looking for the right photographer for you be sure to ask to see a whole gallery from the photographer! Not just the beautiful golden hour photos on their instagram!

  • What to look for?

    • Is their editing consistent throughout the whole day? Lighting changes a lot throughout a wedding day, and while every lighting scenario produces different photos, look to see if the colors are somewhat consistent and match what you’re looking for!

    • Are the low-light photos well taken? Reception spaces can be dark look to see if can your photographer use a flash well and continue to capture moments even after the sun goes down.

Ask about their gear

  • Now most people probably don’t know much about cameras. There are many brands and the main ones would include Sony, Nikon, or Canon. These are all great, no one is better than the other!

  • What to ask about?

    • Does their camera have dual card slots? Two cards in one camera means your photos are automatically backed up to two separate files as they’re taken. Technology fails its best to have this security throughout the wedding day.

Ask about the backup process

  • Once the wedding is over and everyone goes home you want to be confident your photos are kept safe until they are delivered to you!

  • For example- When I get home from a wedding I back up my photos onto two separate hard drives and then place both cards with photos into a safe until the gallery is delivered! This means I have 4 copies of the wedding photos at all times in case any one of the technology I’m using fails!

Ask what is needed to book officially

  • Every photographer is different in what they require to secure a wedding date with a client.

  • Be sure to ask what deposit amount they require and make sure they are sending a legit contract! It keeps both parties safe in the event of anything going poorly.

Lastly, ask why they do what they do

As a photographer there’s nothing I love more than gushing over the joy I get in the line of work I have! I love bragging about the precious moments I get to experience and sharing that excitement with my clients!
